There are more than 30 societies providing different kinds of extra-curricular activities regularly in the school. These societies are related to academic subjects, sports, art, and social services. There are also interest groups and school teams. Besides, to improve students’ self-images, develop their hidden potentials and inspire them to learn, the school organizes different kinds of visits and activities throughout the school year. There are even internship arrangements with outside firms or organizations so as to give our students a chance to widen their horizons and put what they have learnt in school into practice. Some examples of activities held include: setting up stalls in the Chinese New Year Fair every year; Youngster TV; 2006 International Trade Fair for Virtual Enterprises; Inter-school Solar Car Science Challenge; Inter-school Electronic Orienteering/Virtual Flight Competition; Sports Interflow Programme in Guangzhou; Volunteer Training Scheme; Interviewing representatives from the Hong Kong People’s Alliance on Globalization; Leadership Training Camp; In-class Adventures; Outward Bound Training Camp; Adventure Ship; etc.
Orientation / Summer Activities for S.1 Intakes:
To help new students adapt to secondary school life at our school, we have organized the S1 orientation day, many counseling activities and summer bridging programmes for Chinese, English and Mathematics. In late August 2006, we successfully organized a day trip to a farm. This parent-child activity has helped to strengthen communication between class teachers, new students and their parents. It enables efficient parent-teacher cooperation as well.
Strategies to promote reading:
To encourage students to read, the school has organized a wide range of related schemes and activities, such as the Morning Reading Scheme, talks by renowned writers, Chinese Book Report Competition, 4.23 World Reading Day, and compiling the “Library Collections”. In particular, the school focuses on promoting good reading habits among junior form students so as to help them build up their foundations for further learning, through holding activities like “A Passage a Day” online reading scheme and a prize-giving system.
